More pictures, mostly from our first year.
Our first year nuke of bees never lived into the second year. I surmise due to my lack of knowing what to do. |
First year colony
I had two deeps and two medium supers which I used here to place frame feeders in for fall feeding.
|
The frame feeders I modified to feed syrup in for the fall
I placed syrup in the modified feeders. Then I placed sections of insulation on each side of them to help keep the heat in.

Spider
I had to take the whole two boxes apart to get rid of this spider. I found two more when I did. |

I was lucky that it didn't knock the hives over or even off the stand. |

Box wood in bloom
A surprize find was the bees working a blooming box wood. I never even knew Box woods bloomed till then. |
Screened bottom board
I switched to screened bottom boards in 2004. I do believe they help with the control of Varroa mites and also help the ventalation of the hive in the summer with the flashing removed. |
